Can you use Cheese Spread to make Cream Cheese?

there is a large difference between cream cheese and cheese spread. The recipe you quote as being on line using cheddar sounds like a cheese sauce. I would try to get cream cheese which will be sold in package at local dairy counter , if not available I would consider any other soft unripened cheese or make a yogurt cheese by draining in colander and squeezing solid.
